What can we expect from the upcoming Las Vegas GP besides the extravagant shows happening between sessions? This is the second time the Las Vegas Grand Prix is held following the debut race last year.
The Basics
Las Vegas is a part of F1’s efforts to expand to the US market and host more races there. The race last year was quite controversial for viewers, locals, and even the teams and drivers with some saying the show business was taking away from the sport.
This is also the only race on the calendar that is held on a Saturday local time (23rd of November 10:00PM). For those of us in the UK it means an early Sunday morning race on the 24th of November.
The track spans 6.2 kilometres, 17 corners, and parts of the iconic Las Vegas Strip. Along the track are some iconic landmarks like Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, and the Sphere.
The Driver’s Championship Battle
It is likely that the Driver’s Championship will be decided in Las Vegas. Max Verstappen is very close to sealing his fourth consecutive Formula 1 Driver’s Championship title. Lando Norris and McLaren would have to pull off a flawless weekend for the battle between the two to continue to Lusail. However, with only three races to go, it looks like Max will take the win. Here are the scenarios:
Max Verstappen wins if:
- Verstappen wins the race
- Verstappen finishes ahead of Norris
- Norris is second and Verstappen is third with the fastest lap
- Norris is third and Verstappen is fourth with the fastest lap
- Norris is fourth and Verstappen is fifth
- Norris is fifth and Verstappen is sixth
- Norris is sixth and Verstappen is seventh
- Norris is seventh and Verstappen is eighth
- Norris is eighth and Verstappen is ninth
- Norris is ninth, 10th or fails to score
Norris needs to keep a three point gap to Verstappen for the title fight to continue to Lusail. Lando Norris would have to finish ahead of Verstappen with Verstappen struggling to score big points.
